The Tenth Party Congress ended on January 22nd 2016 with the announcement of members of the Politburo, Secretariat, and Inspection Committee, and adoption of the resolution marking its successful outcome.

Vice President Comrade Bounnhang Vorachit was elected as Secretary General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. The number of Politburo members remained at 11, of whom one is a woman, but the number of the new Party Central Committee increased from 61 to 69, of whom seven are women.

Members of the 9th Party Central Committee who did not apply in the 10th Party Congress include Party Secretary General Comrade Choummaly Sayasone, Party Politburo member Comrade Thongsing Thammavong, Party Politburo member Comrade Asang Laoly, and Party Politburo member Comrade Somsavat Lengsavad.

The six new Politburo members was elected at the congress are:

Comrade Chansy Phosikham,
Comrade Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane,
Comrade Lt. Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath,
Comrade Dr Khamphanh Phommathat,
Comrade Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune,
Comrade Dr Sonexay Siphandone

Other Politburo members include:

Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith,
Comrade Ms Pany Yathotou,
Comrade Dr Bounthong Chitmany,
And Comrade Phankham Viphavanh

The Secretariat Committee of the Party Central Committee comprises nine comrades, namely:

Comrade Dr Bounthong Chitmany,
Comrade Phankham Viphavanh,
Comrade Chansy Phosikham
Comrade Dr Khamphanh Phommathat
Comrade Lt. Gen. Sengnouan Xayalath
Comrade Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune
Comrade Major General Somkeo Silavong
And Comrade Major General Vilay Lakhamfong

Comrade Bounthong Chitmany was re-elected as President of the eight member Inspection Committee of the Party Central Committee.

The 69 members of the Party Central Committee were elected from a total of 77 candidates and voted for by the 685 delegates, representing more than 200,000 Party members nationwide, who attended the five-day congress, which officially opened on January 18. 

The Tenth Party Congress was conducted in a constructive atmosphere, with all delegates taking on high responsibility and working hard to ensure its success.

The Party was founded on March 22, 1955, and the Party Congress is held every five years to highlight the preceding five years' achievements and to set goals for the next five years.
